Phoenix Ballet (formely Ballet & Friends) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 1982, dedicated to delivering excellence in the performing arts and providing performance opportunities for dancers not only in Arizona, but worldwide.
Phoenix Ballet is under the Artistic direction of Slawomir Woźniak, former Principle Dancer of Teatr Wielki in Łόdź and The National Opera in Warsaw. Mr. Woźniak began his work with Phoenix Ballet in 1989 as a guest artist and became Artistic Director in 2007. He is known worldwide throughout the ballet community with extensive experience as a performer, choreographer and educator. Mr. Woźniak began his early training at the Poznań Ballet School in Poland and more recently graduated from the University of Music in Warsaw.
The official school of Phoenix Ballet, Master Ballet Academy, is dedicated to offering the highest level of dance education and is the only internationally and nationally recognized ballet school in the state of Arizona. Master Ballet Academy, along with Phoenix Ballet members, has received numerous medals, honors and awards from prestigious competitions all over the world in such places as Germany, China, Moscow and many more.
In May 2014, Ballet & Friends became Phoenix Ballet, a performance Company created to give students from Master Ballet Academy, graduating students, and dancers already recognized in the national ballet world the opportunity to perform internationally, have fun dedicating their lives to ballet, and perform world-class productions for local audiences. Through these performance expereinces and exceptional training, Phoenix Ballet is cultivating extraordinary performers that are world citizens of character and integrity.
Phoenix Ballet’s Community Programs help instill an appreciation for the performing arts by providing multiple opportunities for under-served or uniquely challenged children and adults in the community. These include offering scholarships which help a wide range of students build a solid foundation in dance, sponsoring on-site ballet productions at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, donating tickets for underserved children, and partnering with AZ Dance Movement E-Motion for adults with Down syndrome, Autisms and other physical challenges.
Gifts from foundations, corporations and individuals comprise the preponderance of the organization’s budget. With the generous support of donors and volunteers, Phoenix Ballet is able to offer a range of artistic and charitable endeavors and help enhance Phoenix its surrounding areas.
Phoenix Ballet’s vision is to expand its performance opportunities in Arizona which includes inviting guest choreographers, teachers and dancers while providing even more exposure by performing around the world in full ballet repertoire, work to expand the international exchange of cultural programs as well as promote Phoenix Arizona and the United State’s culture internationally. Their goal is to establish artistic excellence, dancer growth and development while offering the best in classical and contemporary ballet to audiences worldwide.
